Her Story: When my girlfriend and I ventured inside Nettelhorst, our neighborhood’s underutilized and struggling public elementary school, the new principal asked what it would take for us to enroll our children. Stunned by her candor, we returned the next day armed with an extensive wish list. The principal read our list and said “Well, let’s get started, girls! It’s going to be a busy year…” We were eight park moms who galvanized neighborhood parents and then organized an entire community to take a leap of faith, transforming a challenged urban school into one of Chicago’s best, virtually overnight. Gene says he realizes he needs to seize the day and make something happen. April 29, 2010: Talking Health Care
Sherrie Palm has initiated an awareness campaign for a common female health issue that receives little public acknowledgment, pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Her book Pelvic Organ Prolapse: The Silent Epidemic explores the subject from all angles and provides the information women need to recognize POP and become advocates for their own health. Her campaign includes:
1.Increasing recognition and understanding of POP (both the condition and the acronym).
2. Initiating local support groups (there are currently only online support groups).
3. Encouraging the medical community to initiate POP awareness and education at the first pelvic exam rather than waiting until women have advanced POP.
4. Address POP issues for women in undeveloped areas of the world.
Sherrie finds extreme joy and satisfaction in each step of the process she has gone through in the past year, trying to create awareness about this extremely common but still in the closet female health issue. The branches of the POP Awareness Campaign continually shift, but the core aspect remains solid – Creating much needed awareness and support for women who have been diagnosed with this cryptic health issue.

Wrap Buddies was started in May of 2009 by Tommy Strader, founder and CEO of 360 Wraps in Dallas, TX. March 11: Who Says I Can’t: the compelling story of a two-time cancer-survivor, amputee and entrepreneur who fought back, survived, thrived and then gave back – Jothy Rosenberg: Jothy Rosenberg, north of 50 by a little bit, is an above knee amputee caused by osteosarcoma in 1973. Three years later the cancer metastasized and 2/5 of his lungs had to be removed. A course of chemotherapy — only just out in clinical use in 1976 — is probably why he is still here today. He went on to get a PhD in computer science, be on the faculty of Duke University for five years, to author three technical books, to found seven high tech companies, to ride in the Pan-Masscahusetts Challenge bike-a-thon supporting the Dana-Farber cancer institute seven years, to swim sixteen times from Alcatraz to San Francisco to support Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program. All told his athletic fundraising efforts to date have netted the charities over $100,000. Jothy has a wonderful wife, three kids, a grandson as well as a multitude of golden retrievers. He lives (and swims, and bikes) in Newton, Massachusetts. He wrote this book to try to share what he learned in over 35 years living as a cancer survivor, an amputee, as someone who has recovered from very intense life trauma, in the hope it accelerates that learning for those in a similar situation and perhaps motivates and inspires those just needing a little lift.

February 25: Kenny Golde, Kenny Golde is a filmmaker and author. He directed “Uncross the Stars” starring Academy Award nominee Barbara Hershey and Golden Globe winner Ron Perlman, (now available on DVD at UncrosstheStarsMovie.com) and wrote and directed “The Job” starring Daryl Hannah.
Kenny’s book “The Do-It-Yourself Bailout” tells the story of how he negotiated settlements on over $200,000 in credit card debt, reducing his debt by over 90%, avoiding bankruptcy and bringing help to thousands of people through showing them the process of debt settlement so that they can do it themselves. Many people who are struggling with debt either do not know about debt settlement, or they believe it is something that must be handled by a third party agency who will at the charge them a lot of money, or worse, scam them out of their money with no results. Most people do not know that you have the right to call your banks directly and negotiate settlements on your credit card debt yourself. This could potentially save you thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars. Moreover, the self-empowerment that comes from taking control of your financial life, rather than hoping someone else will “fix” it for you, can help free you from pain, guilt, fear, stress, shame and suffering that often comes with debt.
Join us as Kenny share his mission of helping everyone learn the key to “Do-it-yourself Debt Settlement.” Kenny will join the show from his home in California via Skype.
